Aisha Jones
Sunday May 29th, 1985 marked the beginning of a great journey, for Pauline and Godfrey Mcalpin, who were so happy to be introducing their first child to the world. Her name was Shante' Savannah Mcalpin. Shante began her Early Learning at Wee Wisdom, Nassau Christian Academy and later went on to graduate from St. Augustine’s College in 2003. Because of her love for children and wanting to be a teacher, she decided at age 18 to start making steps to do so, the first one was starting a summer camp program by the name of Executive Learning Summer Camp. This summer camp catered to children from ages 1 to 7 yrs. This summer camp was so successful she decided to make a much bigger step in opening a preschool. At age 22, Shante Mcalpin did just that, she became a preschool owner by the name of U learn Daycare. This preschool now caters to 50 plus students. The school is equipped with its own playground, kitchen, three interactive classrooms, computer room, nursery, reception office, and eating area.During all of this work, Shante was still able to not only pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education at Bahamas Baptist College, but she also received an award for completing the Program with the highest cumulative grade point average in the entire education department. Now equipped with an Associates Degree, she was ready to take it a step further and obtain a Bachelor’s Degree. Despite the hard work, she later enrolled at Omega College/St. Thomas University where she not only obtained her Bachelor’s in Elementary Education but was the 2013 Valedictorian of her graduating class. She plans to continue her educational journey at Nova University where she would like to pursue a Master’s in Curriculum and Material Development. With her life always centered on education she hopes to one day became one of the youngest teachers ever to be officially recognized for her unique approach to the art of teaching and win the title of, “Teacher of the Year”. It is shante’s hope her commitment to the educational process will ensure that students utilize their full potential and make a positive contribution to their society.
Smart, intelligent, sophisticated, graceful and beautiful are all adjectives that can be used to describe Aisha but to her family and friends, she is a humble, blessed, creative yet determined Christian teen who wants to make a profound difference in the world. On September 16, 1996, Aisha Zakiya Jones was born at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia to Samantha V. Evans and Dwight E. Jones. She began her early learning at the YWCA in Atlanta. When her mother returned home to New Providence after college, she attended Reality Educare Center, Our Lady’s Catholic School, Garvin Tynes Primary School and then St. Francis de Sales Catholic School on Abaco. While in Grade Six, she captured the hearts of her teachers to receive the “Who is Who” in Primary School Nomination for her school. This resulted in her receiving a scholarship from the Primary School Student of the Year Foundation which was an awesome accomplishment for this ten year old.
For high school, she attended Forest Height Academy and Abaco Central High school before relocating to New Providence to complete Grade 12. While at Forest Heights Academy she successfully passed seven (7) Bahamas Junior Certificate Examinations with 5 As, 1 B and 1 C. In Grade 11, while at Abaco Central High School, she was recommended to sit five of her senior exams resulting in her successfully passing all of her Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations with 2 As, 1 B, and 2 Cs. This resulted in her obtaining early admissions to The College of the Bahamas for Fall 2013. She also sat and passed the SAT exam with a very impressive score of 1460 while a junior in high school. Aisha recently graduated from C. V. Bethel High School with honors and is excited to begin the next level of her education at The College of the Bahamas in August 2013. Aisha is planning to take the world on by storm one day at a time with God at the helm as her guide.
On June 26, 2002, a beautiful baby girl was born to Vallant and Nickisia Charlton in the wonderful city of Nassau, Bahamas, the last of 3 children. Mannisha began her early learning at Sea Saw Christian Academy and is know attending the Charles W. Saunders Baptist primary school. She is presently in grade 5 achieving an outstanding level with a G.P.A of 3.68. Mannisha is apart of her schools choir and dance group. She is also a Scout Member.
In Mannisha's spear time, she enjoys dramatizing, singing, dancing and baking. Mannisha also enjoys spending time with her family. She attends youth meetings at her local church. In addition, she is apart of the liturgical dance ministry.
Mannisha is inspiring to become a "super star". However, upon entering Miss Bahamas Galaxy, her very first pageant, she was confident enough to say to her family and friends, "in it to win it" and so said, so done.
Since being crowned, Mannisha has become even more confident, poised, elegant and even respectful among her pears. Mannisha knows that with great support from her family, friends and with God on her side, all things are possible. This peaceful, joyful and loving child excepts the words of wisdom given to her by her parents, "if you be faithful over the little things, you will become ruler over many". It is from these words of wisdom, Mannisha has realized that the sky is the limit, if she reach for the stars, she may fall among the clouds. She can accomplish anything once she puts her mind to it.
Mannisha has a love for animals and stands against animal cruelty. She believes that animals have a soul too. And, when animals die, they all go back to heaven. She is very passionate about animals and one day in the future, hopes to open an animal shelter for abused and battered animals so she can nurse them back to health. Mannisha looks forward to making this world a better place for the animals she so loves.
